After practicing for nearly 20 years at one of the world's most prestigious law firms, we founded Aaron Katz Law LLC for a singular purpose—to provide individuals and companies the highest caliber defense against the government. That remains our passion, but it is not all we do.
We founded our litigation boutique to provide more personalized and more efficient representation to individuals and companies facing government investigations, criminal indictments, and False Claims Act litigation. We are based in Boston, but our practice is national. Our clients reside all over the world, and we have dealt with prosecutors, appeared in courts, and tried cases across the country. Our most recent trial—defending an individual against multiple securities fraud claims brought by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission—ended with a verdict completely in favor of our client. That trial victory makes our founding partner Aaron Katz one of the very few lawyers to have defeated the federal government at both criminal and civil trials during the past 10 years.
Litigation against the government can be uniquely stressful and consequential. You should expect your defense lawyer to provide you the highest level of care and responsiveness. We welcome that responsibility. Regardless of when we are retained—at the outset of an investigation, in the middle of an investigation, after an indictment or complaint is filed, or on appeal—we fight tirelessly for our clients and guide them through every step of the process.
In addition to litigation against the government, we also represent clients in complex commercial litigation, including civil RICO, private securities fraud litigation, antitrust disputes, and non-intervened qui tam matters. We approach these cases with the same rigor, seriousness, and creativity as we do our government-facing cases.
Our firm is small by design and prides itself on punching well above its weight. But we are also collegial and collaborative by nature. We routinely work with other law firms—including the most prestigious firms in the country—when a matter is too big for us to handle on our own or involves multiple defendants. Law firms that we have collaborated with on recent complex litigations include Skadden Arps, Morgan Lewis, and Dynamis LLP.
Prior to founding Aaron Katz Law LLC, Aaron Katz spent 18 years as a top litigator at Ropes & Gray LLP, specializing in white collar criminal defense and False Claims Act litigation. In 2013, Aaron was promoted to equity partner in Ropes & Gray’s prestigious Government Enforcement Practice Group—the youngest lawyer ever promoted to that position. Since then, Aaron has been recognized consistently by publications such as Chambers USA, Benchmark Litigation, Super Lawyers, Law360, and The Best Lawyers in America as one of the country’s leading white collar criminal defense lawyers and False Claims Act litigators. Counsel Keira Grimes Zirngibl is also an alumnus of Ropes & Gray, where she was a standout litigation associate and worked closely with Aaron on government-facing matters.

We have decades of experience successfully standing up to the government during investigations, at trial, and on appeal.
For nearly 20 years, we have handled high-stakes white collar matters across the country. Our clients have faced allegations of wire fraud, mail fraud, honest services fraud, healthcare fraud, securities fraud, commodities fraud, real estate fraud, money laundering, embezzlement, obstruction of justice, kickbacks, racketeering, identity theft, false statements, and conspiracy. Those allegations have posed existential threats to our clients’ liberty, businesses, and reputations. Defending clients in those circumstances is where we excel. We repeatedly have stood up to the government—and won.
Our criminal trial victories include defeating a sprawling fraud indictment brought against medical device manufacturer Stryker Biotech, defeating an obstruction of justice indictment brought against BP petroleum engineer Kurt Mix, and defeating a wire fraud and conspiracy indictment brought against commercial real estate developer Dustin DeNunzio. We also convinced prosecutors to dismiss before trial all charges against entrepreneur John Fazio, who retained us after he was wrongly arrested and charged with embezzlement, fraud, and identity theft.
Though we are battle-tested trial lawyers, we also have obtained many quiet, confidential victories for clients under government investigation—convincing prosecutors that our client did nothing wrong and should not be charged. Where our clients have lacked a viable defense to criminal charges, we have negotiated favorable plea deals and obtained sentences far below what prosecutors recommended.
We also have defeated numerous False Claims Act complaints on motions to dismiss, have defended all those dismissals successfully on appeal, and have resolved many False Claims Act investigations on a “no admissions” basis for a small fraction of what the government originally demanded.

We provide the highest caliber defense against the government—with greater personal attention, responsiveness, and efficiency.
Our decades of experience and track record of success are the foundation of Aaron Katz Law LLC. We provide our clients the highest caliber defense against the government—the same caliber that we provided clients during our time at Ropes & Gray. But we provide more personalized attention and efficient representation than our clients could find at a bigger firm. Our lean business model allows us to take on fewer clients at any one time. This enables us to devote greater focus to each client’s problem and to be incredibly responsive to each client’s questions and needs. At the same time, our deep expertise allows us to advance our client’s defense with unmatched efficiency, without sacrificing our ability to learn the finest details of our client’s case.
If our client’s matter requires more resources than we can provide on our own, we will partner with another top white collar defense boutique whose lawyers share our values and approach. And we are always willing to collaborate with any other defense counsel our client may wish to retain. We have partnered seamlessly with other defense counsel throughout our careers, including jointly representing clients with top litigation firms such as Wilkinson Stekloff, Skadden Arps, Winston & Strawn, Alston & Bird, and Cravath, Swaine & Moore.
